The Schneider CA.1 was designed to overcome the stalemate of trench warfare by opening passages for infantry through barbed wire and suppressing German machine gun nests. The tank was built like a simple armored box without compartmentalization of the inner space, lacking a turret and armed with a short 75 mm cannon in a sponson on the right side. Despite its flaws, the Schneider CA.1 played a significant role in the French Army's efforts to break the German front during the war.
