The Harley-Davidson WLA was produced to US Army specifications and was based on the existing civilian model, the WL. It was known as the "Liberator" in Europe and was of the 45 solo type, with a 45-cubic-inch (740 cm³) engine displacement and single-rider design. The WLA was produced in small numbers in 1940 and saw significant production during the war, with some 56,000 produced. It was also produced for the Canadian Army as the WLC and supplied to allies like the UK, South Africa, and the Soviet Union. The WLA was known for its ruggedness, reliability, and versatility, making it an essential asset for the military.
